Looking for a different way to connect with yourself and others?
Art Talk offers a variety of Art as Therapy groups for young adults.
All of our groups provide the ability to connect, learn, and grow with like-minded people in a nonjudgmental space where others dealing with similar problems can feel safe to share their experiences.

Group work brings a deeper level of connection that individual therapy doesn’t always provide – and utilizing art within a group brings the connectivity to a whole other level.
Art is a tool that allows us to be honest with ourselves, and most importantly, art is a tool that allows us to connect to our nervous system while simultaneously tapping into our authentic selves.
Art regulates the nervous system through the mind-body connection – bringing the body to a calmer, more balanced state.
Just like our individual services, in group, the art-making process is combined with cognitive-behavioral theories, in order to help identify and restructure unhealthy patterns. By exposing these patterns through art, we can start creating new, healthier thought patterns that will lead to a better quality of life.
Here’s what it looks like…
All groups tend to start the same – beginning with a group of unsure strangers who have no idea how much they’re about to connect with one another or how far their artwork is going to take them!
All groups are structured with a prompt for the art making process and end with a group discussion.
Participation in the group conversation is always completely voluntary – however you will find, participation is almost always 100%.
Some other things to know…
Groups are typically structured as “open groups,” meaning you can sign up for any number of sessions. Groups will meet at their scheduled time and range between 60-90 minutes long.
Art as Therapy groups work best for people with all kinds of art experience – in fact, having little to no art experience can be beneficial because it will allow you to focus on the connection that the art-making process provides.
Art Talk naturally provides a safe, creative, and supportive environment for everyone. All groups are intended to be confidential, and all members are expected to respect that aspect.
Groups are currently only being offered in person at 221 Spring St. Newport, RI
“Not only did the group teach me so much, but it held space to explore and discuss transformative topics freely and openly.”

No matter where you are on your healing journey…
A group can almost always be a beneficial addition.
You do not need to be in therapy to participate in group art therapy, but I might recommend it, depending on the severity of your struggles. But please know that group work is not meant to replace therapy; it’s intended to be used as a supplement to therapy.
