Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?

221 Spring St. Newport, Rhode Island.

Services are also offered online.

With whom do you work?
I work with individual adults or in group settings with all genders.
Do you only provide art therapy?
No. I provide art as therapy as well as traditional talk therapy – although I encourage the art!
What therapeutic approaches do you use?
I use an integrative and humanistic approach while combining Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and art as therapy.
Do I need to be good at art to do art therapy?

Absolutely not! You don’t need to be the next Picasso… or even have done art beyond elementary school to take full advantage of the benefits of art therapy.

It’s not about what the art looks like; it’s about the connection it provides!

What about art supplies?

All art supplies are included for in person services.

Clients are responsible for their own art supplies if utilizing virtual services.

What do sessions look like?

All sessions are structured in the same way. Sessions are rooted in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy which has the ability to transfer to an art directive.

The beginning of the session will be more exploratory and lead into the art-making process. After the art is complete, we spend the remainder of the session discussing its meaning and your progress.

Will I be doing work outside of sessions?
Yes! The goal is to have you translate the skills learned in session into real life. So, between sessions, you’ll be given ideas for how to practice what we discussed in session at home (e.g., journaling).
Can you give me an overview of your professional training?

I initially went to school for fine arts and instead got my undergraduate degree in art therapy.

I then got my Masters of Social Work (MSW) degree from New York University and continued on to become an independently licensed clinical social worker (LICSW).

I have training in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and a background in trauma work.

Do you take insurance?

I currently accept BCBS and private pay rates. For private pay services you will be provided with a Superbill to submit to your insurance for reimbursement.  All groups are private pay.

How do I pay?

For individual therapy you will be provided an invoice through Simple Practice and pay electronically using a credit or debit card.

What is your cancellation policy?
There will be a $50 fee for cancellations within 24 hours of the appointment.
How long are sessions?

Individual sessions are 50 minutes. Group sessions are between 60-90 minutes.

How old are you?

I get this question a lot because I look young and have a bubbly personality.

I’m just shy of my 30s, but I like to think it’s my experience and knowledge that matters most! 🙂
